Care and general advice

Follow the daily care routine for your hearing aids as specified in your user instructions, laid out here and as advised by your hearing aid dispenser.

Only use cleaning tools that are specifically designed for the job. Widex tools and OtoVita accessories are available from your dispenser.

Treat your hearing aids with care – dropping, squashing or sitting on your hearing aids is not good for them!

Operating

Never use force on a hearing aid

Never force batteries into your hearing aids or force the battery door closed – check that you have the correct size batteries and that they are inserted the correct way round.

Switch your aids off fullstop when they are not in use




Never use force on a hearing aid

Avoid putting your aids in extremes of temperature or humidity. NEVER wear your aids in the bath/ shower/ swimming pool etc.

Do not subject hearing aids to
x-rays or radiation

Do not put your hearing aids through sources of radiation: X-ray machines, CT scanners etc. Take advice and follow instructions from the radiation machine operator.

Do not try to open or adjust your hearing aid

NEVER try to open or repair your hearing aid yourself – contact your dispenser if you have any concerns.

Storing

Remove the batteries when your aids are not in use for a long period.

Keep your aids safely in their protective box when they are not being worn.

Cleaning

OtoVita products are designed to care for your health and your aids

Keep your hearing aids, earmoulds and earsets clean and dry at all times for best hygiene and performance.

Wipe your hearing aids, earmoulds and earsets at the end of every day with a soft cloth and remove any wax with the appropriate tool.

Never immerse your hearing aids in water, alcohol or liquid cleaners to clean them.

Only use product specifically designed for hearing aids. Widex recommends the care kit supplied with your hearings aids or the OtoVita range of products, available from your dispenser.

Dry your hearing aids, earmoulds and earsets thoroughly at least once a week or more if you have been perspiring. Use specially designed drying product (e.g. OtoVita’s drying products) and leave the battery door open where relevant to allow air to circulate.

Hearing health & safety

Maintain good ear hygiene and hearing health.

Ensure your ears are suitably ventilated by giving your ears a rest from your aids from time to time. E.g. take them out at night.

If you develop any irritation or discomfort, see your hearing aid dispenser as soon as possible.

Keep your hearing aids suitably clean and hygienic at all times.

Arrange a periodic check up with your hearing aid dispenser, to maintain your hearing health and your hearing aids.

Keep your hearing aids, accessories, batteries, cleaning products and tools well out of reach of children.

Never swallow or put a hearing aid battery in your mouth.

Always dispose of used hearing aid batteries safely and correctly.
