Switching hearing aids on/off

In Widex hearing aids, the battery door is also the on/ off switch.

It should open and close smoothly and easily.

Make sure you are opening the door in the correct way (in particular, note that ITE aids have a slide/ lock mechanism).

Battery questions

Widex hearing aids ensure world class battery life.

Activation times:
Hearing aid batteries are Zinc/Air type. This means that they need access to air to work.

Once you have removed the tab from a new battery, it may take a couple of minutes before the batteries get up to full power and for your aids to start working again.

Do not assume your new battery is dead inside this period!

Battery life:
Once you have removed the tab from a battery, it will slowly discharge.

It is therefore perfectly normal for hearing aid batteries to run out of power after an extended period, even if the battery is not in the aid.

A battery tester can help tell you how much power your batteries still have left.

Reduced sound quality

Reduced sound quality is usually due to simple wax build up or dirt in the microphone holes.

Other reasons could include:

  • Putting the hearing aid in the wrong ear
  • Sound leakage from poor hearing aid or earmould fit due to changes in your ear physiology or inserting the hearing aid incorrectly
  • A dying battery
  • Split or cracked tubes between earmould and hearing aid
  • A damaged
  • Changes in your hearing loss

Whistling

Widex hearing aids should not whistle or feedback during normal use.

Reasons for feedback could include:

  • Sound leakage from poor hearing aid or earmould fit due to changes in your ear physiology or inserting the hearing aid incorrectly
  • Split or cracked tubes between earmould and hearing aid

No sound

Widex hearing aids have a feature that puts them in stand by for a few seconds after you turn them on. This prevents painful whistling and feedback during insertion.

However, if you cannot hear any sound a minute after you have turned your aids on, the reasons may include:

  • Wax build up or dirt in the microphone holes.
  • A dying battery
  • Changes in your hearing loss
  • A new battery has not activated yet

Uncomfortable
