USING AND CARING FOR YOUR HEARING AIDS

Widex BTE cleaning tools

Widex BTES are provided with a set of tools. This kit differs depending on the type of aid, but can include the following:

  • The battery stick has a magnet to help place the battery in the aid (1)
  • The wax removal tool helps remove wax from earmoulds (2 & 3)
  • The small brush is for general cleaning (4)
  • The soft cloth is for general cleaning (5)

Daily cleaning of BTEs

Clean your hearing aid daily with the soft cloth. Inspect it for damage and check to see if any of the microphone holes are blocked.

If microphone holes are blocked, this will reduce hearing aid performance and comfort. It is important to take the appropriate action to clear the blockage or ask your dispenser for guidance.

Weekly cleaning of RIC ear sets

The Widex Passion RIC ear set is simple to clean.

Wipe the EarWire with a soft cloth. If the wire is damaged or yellow with age, it may need replacing, since this will reduce your hearing aid’s performance – contact your dispenser.

Open ear-tips. Remove open ear-tips before cleaning, by gently pulling them off the receiver inside. Brush any wax off the receiver if required and change the NanoCare wax guard if necessary. Rinse the ear-tip (NOT THE RECEIVER) in lukewarm water. Leave the tip to dry thoroughly overnight or in a drying pot (contact your dispenser for information or supplies of OtoVita products).

Closed ear-tips. Remove Closed ear-tips before cleaning, by gently pulling them off the receiver inside. Brush any wax off the receiver if required and change the NanoCare wax guard if necessary. Clear the vent holes with the wax removal tool if necessary. Rinse the ear-tip (NOT THE RECEIVER) in lukewarm water. Leave the tip to dry thoroughly overnight or in a drying pot (contact your dispenser for information or supplies of OtoVita products).

Custom ear-tips. Do not attempt to remove the tip from the receiver inside. Use the small brush to remove any wax build up. If your tip has a vent, remove any wax in the vent with the wax removal tool.

Weekly cleaning of earmoulds

Widex BTE earmoulds and tubing is simple to clean.

Wipe the tubing with a soft cloth. If it is damaged or yellow with age, it may need replacing, since this will reduce your hearing aid’s performance – contact your dispenser.

Gently remove the earmould from the tubing, taking care not to stretch or kink/ pinch the tubing.

Use the wax removal tool to unblock any wax buildup. Rinse the earmould in lukewarm water. Clear any moisture in vents or holes with an air puffer and leave the tip to dry thoroughly overnight or in a drying pot (contact your dispenser for information or supplies of OtoVita products).

Clean the tube with the wax removal tool or special OtoVita tube floss. Clear any moisture in the tube an air puffer and leave the tube to dry thoroughly overnight or in a drying pot (contact your dispenser for information or supplies of OtoVita products).

Replacing wax guards

Widex wax guards MUST be used at all times.

Never re-use a wax guard – always use a fresh one.

Take a fresh wax guard from the packet and insert the hooked end of the holder into the wax guard to be replaced.

Pull the wax guard straight out – do not twist it.

Turn the holder around and push the fresh wax guard firmly into its housing. Remove the holder – the new wax guard will remain in place. Discard the stick with the old guard on it.

If the new wax guard fits loosely, discard it and try again.

Turning on/ off

Widex BTE hearing aids are incredibly simple to turn on and off. The battery door functions as the on/ off switch.

Fully closing the door switches your hearing aid on.

Open the door to turn the hearing aid off.

Changing the battery

Open the battery door.

Remove the old battery with your nail or battery changing magnet.

Discard the old battery safely.

Remove the tab from a new battery to activate it. (It may take a couple of minutes before the battery is fully activated: your hearing aid will not work until the battery is activated.)

Place the new battery in the battery door/ holder with the plus sign (+) facing the same direction as the plus sign on the battery door. You may find using the battery magnet is useful.

GENTLY push the battery door closed.

If the door does not close easily, the battery may be the wrong way around and should be turned over.
