The durable solution for teachers with students with hearing difficulties

Slaris

Because the Solaris binaural receiver has two hearing aids built into its rugged case, it is ideal for managing hearing programs. This is particularly true in very large schools or in regions where students commonly have difficulty purchasing or maintaining their own hearing aids. If there is any doubt about the condition — or existence — of the childs own hearing aids, the hearing professional or teacher can remove any instruments brought from home and place the Solaris binaural receiver on the child.

Because the school owns and maintains the system, teachers can be confident that students are understanding lessons throughout the school day. Solaris binaural is so durable that it is also valuable as a hearing aid for very young children.

Built-in wireless flexibility

The wireless component of the system consists of a wireless transmitter and receiver, each with 40-channel built-in dial-selectable FM channels — again, ideal for use in large schools.

As with all body-worn FM systems, the speaker wears the transmitter, which sends the sound of her voice via an FM radio frequency to the receiver. The child then hears the voice of the teacher, amplified and sent directly to his ear — typically via ear-level mics (EarMics) connected to the earmolds, although transducers may also be used when higher amplification levels make feedback a concern (environmental mics are also built into the receiver case proper).

Versatile in application

Even though Solaris Binaural has hearing aids built in, it can also be used much like an Easy Listener or Solaris personal FM system by connecting it to personal hearing aids or a variety of other listening options.  Solaris Binaural works well for children up through young adults, fitting mild to profound losses. The FM component eliminates the problems caused by background noise, distance, and reverberation, and the 40 selectable channels ensures that the unit will work in different classrooms throughout the school day.

Precision control

The hearing aid component is equally powerful and durable. Calibrated, detented 7-position program switches on the Solaris Binaural 571R receiver let the fitter set SSPL, tone, gain, and FM level independently for each ear, confident that the settings will remain accurate and consistent over time and from unit to unit. A bright color-coded switch on the front of the receiver lets teachers know at a glance when the receiver is in FM Only, FM + HA, or HA Only mode.

The 571T transmitter works with the Solaris Binaural 571R receiver (as can any Phonic Ear transmitter on the same band and channel). Four different microphone styles are available, and an auxiliary input jack allows the teacher to transmit audio from a second sound source, like a CD player or a VCR. Rechargeable batteries provide 10 hours of operating life, while disposable batteries provide up to 20. The Lo Bat indicator light on the front of the unit lets you know if batteries need to be replaced or recharged, while the No FM light will flash if you are on a non-transmitting channel.
